Our School Resource Officer, Darwin Mitchell, worked with students in Mrs. Fatura's forensic science class on field sobriety tests and how the breathalyzer test works. Students used mouthwash to see how it affected the test and investigated the different durations of time to see the progressive lowering of the results. The class is currently studying forensic toxicology and it was very interesting to have Officer Mitchell share his knowledge with the class.

Thank you to all of our students and community members who donated so many amazing books to our Book Swap! Today 143 books were exchanged at our Camp Read S'more Book Swap. That means 143 books went to new homes and were "recycled." Enjoy your new books, students. Happy reading!

Time for S'MORE fun! Tomorrow, March 26, is an elementary Camp Read S’more dress up day. Dress like a camper, hiker, fisherman or outdoorsman.

Special thanks to the WSESD staff, inspiREading and Great Start Collaborative for making it possible for the Book Bus to be at our Pentwater PTCO Carnival. 124 children went home with new books that evening! The children were so excited and grateful for their new books. A special thank you, to Miss Kelsey West, for driving the bus and being so friendly and helpful to all who visited the Book Bus.

Middle School quizbowl made the annual journey to Hart Middle School to compete against other Oceana Middle School teams. The other schools represented were Hart and Walkerville. unfortunately, we did not win, but it was a great learning opportunity. The kids learned that guessing is okay and that frequently the simpler answer is correct. 8th graders were Xach Davis, Silas Jobbins, Janie Hasil, and Shyra Bigsby. 7th graders were Brianna Musil, Xaria Davis, and Stella Bouye. I am proud of them competing and being able to introduce them into this opportunity. Kelly Sisung

Pentwater High School art and band students had an amazing trip today in Chicago! We watched rehearsal of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, saw the "Bean," visited the Museum Contemporary of Art Chicago, and topped the day off with pizza at Giordano's. Teacher, Erika Fatura, recently published an article in the March edition of the American Association of Chemistry Teachers (AACT) journal. AACT is a division of the American Chemical Society (ACS). They had featured Mrs. Fatura last year and had reached out the possibility of her writing an article about the benefits and struggles of teaching in a small school.

K-5 students enjoyed the indoor Bookwalk for Camp Read S’more today. The students read “Scaredy Squirrel Goes Camping” with reading buddies and filled their goody bags as they went on a reading adventure. We encourage families to check out the Bookwalk after they meet with teachers at conferences this week. Happy reading!
