Pentwater Public Schools

The Pentwater Falcons went to the team favorite Manton Invitational tonight. It was a very long meet filled with a lot of fun! New this year was the canoe relay in which a team of 2 handed off a 17 feet canoe with 2 paddles while wearing life jackets to complete a 4 x 100 relay. In addition, there was a co-ed coach/athlete relay, co-ed 4 x 200 pass anything but a relay baton relay, co-ed 4 x 800, throwers 4 x 100 in which an 8.8 lb shot put is used as a baton and the entertaining pole vault relay which uses a pole vault pole as a baton. These are all in addition to the regular running and field events that take place at a meet. In total we had 15 places in the top 7, took home 34 medals and earned 19 personal records! It was a really fun night and every athlete was able to feel good about at least one performance! The Falcons compete again on Monday at the MOM (Mason, Oceana, Manistee Counties) Meet hosted by Mason County Central. Great work tonight team! Each year, a handful of seniors (Advance Chemistry students) host 8th graders in a panel discussion to give advice and what to expect in high school. 8th grade students submit questions for the seniors to provide insight, such as: "What was the hardest class?", "How do you manage your time?" and, "What's your advice for a good start to high school?". Teachers Erika Fatura (Advanced Chemistry) and Andrea Gallie (Spanish I) facilitate this program in May of each year. Thank you to our seniors and our 8th grade students as they begin to think about their futures and how to establish a great foundation to achieve their goals!

Some high school students took advantage of this glorious day and walked to House of Flavors-Pentwater for a free ice cream cone with teachers, Andrea Gallie and Chad Sampson! Thanks, HOF!

Hayden Hovey is the son of Roger Hovey and Pasha Ruggles. Hayden plans to work for his family business for one to two years and then he plans to move to Montana and fight wildfires. "Fire is never a gentle master." - Proverb

Charity Lawler is the daughter of Lori Lawler. Charity plans to work towards her RN license and BSN. She plans to attend West Shore Community College and then transfer to a university for her BSN. "Hardships often prepare people for an extraordinary destiny." - C.S. Lewis

Thank you to all of the volunteers and staff members who made our Family Fun Night a great success! We could not have done it without you. Special thanks to Mrs. Jeruzal and her art students for creating a fabulous Dog Man photo station; Mary and Justin at the Pentwater Public Library and Meg Brown from the West Shore ESD. It was a beautiful evening of fun learning!

Our elementary Family Fun Night on Wednesday, 5/8/24, had a great turnout with close to 140 people in attendance. Students and their families enjoyed creating airplanes, flying them and measuring their distance. They completed both a reading and a math obstacle course. Families also sorted fiction and nonfiction books and learned some fun math games to play at home and so much more! Thank you to everyone who came out to have fun on this gorgeous evening!

GHSP Feeding America Food Truck!

Pentwater Public Schools held a signing ceremony celebrating Malichi Bigsby and his official signing with the U.S. Marines on Thursday, 5/8. Malichi will graduate on 5/23 and will be leaving for boot camp on July 15 with three other young men in our area. Malichi has officially been sworn in and passed all of the entrance requirements to be considered a U.S. Marine. We want him to know, along with all of our seniors, that they have a family here at PPS and we are proud of all of their accomplishments and are thrilled to see each one excitedly making plans for their futures! Well done, Malichi, as well as all of our Class of 2024 graduates; these next couple of weeks are going to fly by, soak it all in!

Hunter Cornelisse is the son of Craig and Jana Cornelisse. Hunter is planning on taking a gap year while researching his options for the future.

Abigail Hughes is the daughter of Jon Hughes and Shelby Wagner-Hughes. Abby plans to attend Central Michigan University to pursue a degree in media studies. Go, Chips!

Please join us tomorrow in a ceremony to recognize Malachi Bigsby for his enlistment into the United States Marine Corps. It will be in the large gym starting at 11:30am.

Middle School and High School Artists spent time today creating work at the Pentwater Artisan Learning Center. Special thanks to Sue Hopp and her crew of Artisan volunteers!

The Pentwater Falcons traveled to Brethren for the WMD Conference Championship meet tonight! What a great evening for a meet! The boys placed 4th with 72 points and the girls 5th with 41 points. In total we earned 17 medals and 8 honorable mention certificates. We also had 15 personal records set tonight! We only have 2 meets left before regionals! Aubriana Foster is the daughter of Ryan and Shannon Foster. Aubriana will complete her final year at West Shore Community College through the ASM Tech program. After she graduates, she plans on attending a nursing program at an undecided university.

Abe VanDuinen is the son of Brad and Carrie VanDuinen. Abe plans to attend Calvin University where he will major in music performance for trombone and minor in archeology while running cross country and track and field for the Calvin Knights!

Mackenna Hasil is the daughter of Ray and Dayna Hasil. Mackenna is hoping to enlist into the United States Army and pursue a career in computer intelligence, "Be All You Can Be"!

The baseball and softball games scheduled for Tuesday, 5/7/24, versus MCE, have been canceled due to the rain!
