December 2023 Elementary Students of the Month
White Cloud traveled to Pentwater tonight in a non-conference matchup. The importance of playing talented non-conference games was the challenge the team faced in tonight's contest with White Cloud. The Falcons started the game out strong, keeping the scoring within 4 until the final minute of the first quarter when White Cloud knocked down multiple 3 pointers. ( 10-18) This hot streak continued for them into the second and third quarters as well. It proved to be all White Cloud offensively, shooting the lights out from 3 ( hitting 8 total in both quarter combined). The strong defensive presence rattled the Falcons and shots did not fall scoring 6pts and 8pts. The 4th quarter the Falcons started to find their team play and work together. It was however a little too late with the huge lead that White Cloud created. The Falcons lost a tough game tonight. Mikey Carlson led the Falcons with 14pts and 11 rebounds. Overall 6-2 Conference 6-0 The Falcons take action for a third time on Friday, 1/5, at MCE.

The Falcons had a long Christmas break but started off a stretch of 3 consecutive games with a Conference win tonight vs. Manistee Catholic Central. ( 81-29) The team defense was firing on all cylinders which allowed for a strong offensive transitional attack in the first half. The Falcons were Led by Jonny Arnouts and Trey Johnson for the duration of the game with scoring. Jonny scored 17 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals while his other half Trey Johnson matched Jonny's momentum with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals.! What a great DUO! Several other Falcons had breakout games like Nathan Macher scoring his first double-double, 10points and 13 rebounds. Abram and Mikey both dominated in the post to each chip in 8 and 16 more points. Our senior, Jack Roberts also had a big game knocking down a 3 pointer and pulling down 7 rebounds! Great Win Falcons! Overall 6-1 Conference 6-0 The Falcons will take on White Cloud tomorrow at home.

The Varsity Boys took on a conference matchup vs the Lakers of Bear Lake. The Falcons opened up the contest with a strong defensive presence holding the Lakers to just 2 points led by the rebounding of Mikey Carlson and Will Werkema Grondsma. The second quarter, Jonny Arnouts knocked down two 3pt shots and snatched a few quick steals with Will Werkema Grondsma and Trey Johnson that activated our offense. Going in at half, the Falcons had a 23-12 lead. The third quarter was impressive after a few adjustments at the half. Jonny, Will, Mikey and Trey were firing on all cylinders offensively and defense was focused and disciplined. The team put up 21pts together! The final quarter of play was balanced and shared. Jack Roberts played great knocking down a pair of buckets. Kaleb Brown found his spark and hit several shots. Will, Trey, Abram and Nathan contributed to the scoring as well. Great win, 65-33. Overall: 4-1; Conference: 4-0 The Falcons take action on Friday in Big Rapids Crossroads! Huge thanks to all of our Youth basketball players! It was great to have our future Falcons hitting shots and playing great defense. We are so proud of you!

Our Bigs & Littles meet each month to do fun and interactive activities! The "Bigs" are National Honor Society high school students and the "Littles" are 2nd grade students and they partner up for the year to build positive relationships. The Bigs met with their Littles this morning to help traveling Santa find a different way to deliver presents. Santa's sleigh is broken and Santa needs the Littles to do some measurement tests. Each Little and Big partners had to test their trials by airplane, car or catapult to figure out which type of travel Santa should choose to go the farthest!

Thank you to our awesome staff, school board members and various other community members who have contributed, either monetarily or by providing gifts, and making Christmas a bit more special for some of our Falcon families. For 2023, we were able to benefit 20 families with gifts, household items and gift cards; this is the biggest number of families that we have been able to bless since we began this annual tradition. It started out as staff providing families with some help during Christmas and has just taken off with others wanting to join! Merry Christmas!

The Falcons had a non-conference matchup tonight vs Fruitport Calvary Christian. In a well matched up event, the Falcons started off strong coming out of the gate and taking a 6 point lead. FCC bounced back quickly and tied the Falcons at the end of the 1st quarter finding their big man inside ( 12-12). Outside shooting and off balanced shots got the best of several Falcons tonight in the next three quarters as so many shots did not fall. As a team we only shot 27% from the field and 9% from 3 point land. Despite the missed shots the Falcons managed to keep in the game, even closing a 11 point lead to 2. In the end, the Falcons fell short of a victory once they started fouling and putting FCC at the line. Mikey Carlson and Abram Kieda had solid games for the Falcons. Mikey contributed a double double with 23pts and 16 rebounds. Trey Johnson chipped in 13. 3-0 Conference 3-1 Overall The Falcons take on Bear Lake at home on Wednesday.

Pentwater Esports wrapped up their fall 2023 season today. Team 1 of Jack Roberts, Rodney Grondsma and Logan Fautra made it to the 9th round. They lost to a tough Mona Shores team. If my calculations are correct they ended in 11th place of 32. I am very proud. Team 2 of Alden Grondsma, Hunter Cornelisse and Bode Powell fell in Round 4 to Portage Central who ended up getting beaten by Mona Shores. By my calculations they ended in 19th. Logan and Jack also took place in a blindfolded smash tournament. This where the player with the controller is blindfolded and is directed by their teammate. They won 2 rounds but fell in the third to a University of Detroit Jesuit High school team. Today has been a very long but intense day. Several played matches in their free time with other players and each other. There has been much laughter today and this season. I am incredibly proud of them and so lucky to get to coach them.
