We were thrilled to kick off March is Reading Month with an exclusive video just for Pentwater Elementary staff and students from author and illustrator, James Edward Burks! Mr. Burks is the creator of What’s Your Superpower?, an inspiring book that highlights the positive character traits that help us—and those around us—feel valued and empowered. Through engaging storytelling and illustrations, he reminds readers that qualities like respect, caring, perseverance, and integrity are true superpowers we all can develop.
The video set the perfect tone for a month dedicated to reading and growth. We were also fortunate to have him join us live on Google Meet, where he answered students’ thoughtful questions and shared insights about his writing and illustrating process. To wrap up the assembly, we celebrated our readers by drawing reading tickets from each class and giving away several copies of What’s Your Superpower?. Teachers and administrators even joined in the fun by sharing their own “superpowers,” reminding everyone that we each have unique strengths that make our school community shine.
What a fantastic way to launch March is Reading Month!
