The Pentwater Lake Association sponsors a Keepers of the Lake speech contest. On 12/11, six students from Mr. Magrath's speech class answered the challenge to research and make presentations on topics related to the health of our lakes. The six students who participated were Eliana Mandarano (11th), Evalena Jeruzal (12th), Anna VanDuinen (12th), Grace Stoneman (12th), Audrey Kieda (12th), and Kaleb Brown (10th). The students shared interesting and helpful information accompanied by engaging visual support. Cash prizes were awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners and all participants received certificates of participation. First place and $125 was awarded to Grace Stoneman for, "Pollution, but What's Our Solution?"; second place and $100 went to Eliana Mandarano for "Invasive Species and the Great Lakes"; and third place and $75 went to Evalena Jeruzal for "Enemies of Our Lakes: Invasive Species". We are incredibly proud of all the students who participated. Thank you to all of the students, Mr. Magrath, Betty Pleva, PLA education committee chair, and the Pentwater Lake Association and judges for providing this awesome opportunity for high school students.

Greetings!
I wanted to let you know that Pentwater Public Schools has been awarded a School Resource Officer (SRO) grant! There are still details that Chief Hartrum and I have to work out, but we are planning on having a resource officer in the building by next fall!
When schools and law enforcement agencies work together, it increases the ability of law enforcement agencies, schools, and community groups to work together in developing innovative, systemic, long-term approaches to reducing and preventing different kinds of crime in and around their schools and preventing unnecessary law enforcement involvement in non-criminal student misbehavior. By implementing strategies such as providing an SRO, we are able to:
focus on targeted crimes, thereby improving the quality of life for those affected (students, teachers, school personnel, and parents),
promoting a safer environment that is conducive for learning, and decreasing the fear of crime and violence among students, school employees, and the surrounding community
Other schools in our area who also received the grant were Shelby, Hart, MCE, Ludington Elementary and WSESD.
This is great news for our area schools!
