Mrs. Leona Ashley with Win With Wellness educated all the elementary students with Be smart, don’t start: A tobacco prevention program. Did you know that cigarettes contain 600 chemicals that convert to 7000 when lit! E-cigarettes are marketed to children with fun flavors and may cause irreversible lung damage. Mrs. Ashley showed us an example of healthy lungs vs. smoker lungs.

The 4th grade class enjoyed an amazing DTE/Consumers Energy presentation on Tuesday, 3/14, about "Think Energy!" The class learned about renewable and non-renewable energy sources. Each student also received a take home energy kit filled with materials to help encourage families to reduce energy and save on monthly energy bills. Thank you to our presenters for their amazing interactive presentation!

"Our high school band here at Pentwater performed at MSBOA District 1 festival hosted by Manistee High School today on March 8th and took home an overall Division 2 (excellent) rating! The high school band has not been to festival since pre-covid and most of the students have not been to festival at all. In addition, they scored a 1 (best) rating for sight reading which is arguably the hardest part of the festival performance. It is a huge achievement for our band and we cannot wait to take them again next year. So congratulate the HS band for their hard work next time you see them!", Mr. Rodriguez. We are incredibly proud of our musicians and our Band Director, Mr. Jesse Rodriguez, well done!
Congratulations to our JH/HS students of the month for February 2023: Breeya Mandarano (7th Grade); Aiden Henry (8th Grade); Lauren Davis (9th Grade); and, Michael Quinteros (11th Grade)! Well done!

Pentwater Quizbowl attended its first in-person competition since 2020 on Saturday. This was also our first invitational competition in several years. We learned a lot and had fun. There were 15 teams total in the small school's division. Pentwater came in 8th in our division. We played nine rounds in total and heard 150 toss-up questions. Eli Cook placed 22nd out of 78 students for answering questions correctly; his average points per toss-up was 23.33. Evalena Jeruzal was next highest in 27th place; her average points per toss-up question was 19.33. Aubriana Foster, Abby Hughes, Samantha Schaefer, and Lauren Davis also competed and were very much assets to the team. Maggie Jorissen also got to come along and see how the High School competitions look; she was a great reader of practice questions during downtime.
I am incredibly proud of how they did, especially since this was their first in-person competition other than Middle School. I am grateful to the parents who made this possible by driving them and spending the day with us, supporting the kids in this competition.
