The Pentwater Falcon Cross Country Team competed at the Manistee Chris Grabowski Memorial Invite today. Chris was an exceptional Manistee High School cross country and track athlete. His 1996 time of 16:53 still stands as one of the top finishes ever for a Manistee runner at Michigan International Speedway, site of the MHSAA cross country State Finals. His family honors his memory by continuing to support a legacy of Manistee runners. Bode Powell was our only athlete to earn a season best tonight with a time of 22:55.48! Earning medals were Wyatt Roberts, Bailey Case and Ayla Kokx. Top Finishers and Medalist: Wyatt Roberts 20:23.56 (40) Bailey Case 24:27.27 (32) Ayla Kokx 16:02.04 (29) A special thanks to a very generous donor who bought dinner for the team tonight! We are very grateful! The team is dealing with some injuries and illness, so we are going to enjoy a weekend off and a rest day tomorrow! Next up is the WMD Conference Championship in Custer on Wednesday! Go Falcons!

The Pentwater Cross Country Team traveled to Hesperia for the Baker Woods Invitational. It is a course that many call the toughest in the state! It is beautiful, but really challenging! For the varsity boys, Tyler Zimmer was our top finisher in 24th place with a time of 21:08.48. Wyatt Roberts was 33rd place in a time of 23:12.52. For the varsity girls, Bailey Case was again in the top 10, placing 8th, with a time of 24:10.39. For the middle school boys, Chi Jeruzal was the top finisher in 8th place. For the middle school girls, Lauren Macher placed 7th and 6th grader Ayla Kokx was the meet champion for the middle school girls. She earned an “All Baker Woods” shirt! In addition, normally it takes 5 to score a team, but with so few schools they decided to do ghost runners so all teams could score. How this works is that with 17 runners, they added in 18 points for each of the missing runners. Cross country scoring works with the winning team earning the lowest number of points as it is all based on your place. So, with only Ayla and Lauren running, they earned a team runner-up plaque!! Nice work ladies!! Congratulations to all of the athletes for finishing today! It is a really tough course both mentally and physically! Go Falcons!!

The Pentwater cross country team competed in the final WMD Jamboree of the season in Marion. Out of 14 runners, there were 2 season bests and 5 personal records! The boys varsity team placed 3rd behind MCE and Mesick. The middle school team kicked us off for the day with some fantastic performances. Skyler Compton placed 2nd in a time of 13:05.92. Chi Jeruzal placed 6th overall with a new PR of 14:18.79. This breaks his PR set last year by 9 seconds. Ben Jorissen also broke his PR from last year with a time of 15:09.01 which earned him 14th place. Jordy Miller earned a huge PR with a time of 15:21.89. He took off a minute and 26 seconds from the time he ran last week. On the ladies side, Ayla Kokx placed 2nd in a new PR time of 14:50.93. This is 20 seconds faster than her last PR. Lauren Macher placed 7th in a time of 15:47.18. Next up was the varsity boys! Wyatt Roberts was back in action tonight placing 12th with a time of 19:54.54. Pentwater Esports is back in business this fall. We are now competing in 3 titles each week. The first win of the season went to the Fortnite team of Anthony Acosta and Aiden Henry. They did a fantastic job winning all 3 games of 7 rounds, even with Anthony being at a disadvantage this week due to a forgotten controller. The last game was tight; only 1 round separated us and Houghton Public Schools. I am looking forward to seeing them continue on this season. We also compete on Tuesdays with Super Smash Brothers. Unfortunately, we lost our first match yesterday due to scheduling conflicts, and we were short a couple of key players. Thursdays are Mario Kart competition days, and based on a pre-season match last week, our season is looking pretty bright as well.

On Friday, 9/27, a guest student, Noellya, sat in on a morning rehearsal with our high school concert band. Noellya is from Martin Public Schools in Martin, Michigan, and was vacationing in Pentwater for the week. Band director, Mr. Rodriguez, had the pleasure of working with Noellya and the Martin Clipper marching band during the summer break as their woodwind technician. Music is an extraordinary way to connect with all artists from other areas. We thank Noellya for visiting and playing with our concert band. Go, Falcons, and Go, Clippers!
