District Information: Pentwater Public Schools is a district within a tourism community in the village of Pentwater. Students attending Pentwater Public Schools are from the Pentwater Village, Pentwater Township, Weare Township and school of choice students within Oceana and Mason Counties. Pentwater Public Schools is a single building district with grade levels from preschool through 12th grade, with a total enrollment of approximately 230 students. Community partners for Pentwater Public Schools include West Shore Educational Service District (WSESD) and local businesses within the Pentwater Chamber of Commerce.

Pentwater Public Schools currently has one teacher per grade level, K - 6th grade. At the secondary level, teachers are primarily one teacher per core content area as well as one K12 physical education teacher, one K12 music teacher, one K12 art teacher and one special education teacher (per level elementary/secondary) for a total of 19 highly qualified teachers. There are two building administrators (K12 Principal/Superintendent and a K-12 Assistant Principal) with two school administrative assistants, Director of Technology, Facilities/Transportation Director and an Athletic Director. The West Shore Educational Service District (WSESD) itinerary staff provide support at the school level with counseling/school social work, speech and language services, and Occupational and Physical Therapy as needed based on IEPs. There are also nine support staff /paraprofessionals.

Position: Full-Time K-12 Assistant Principal Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or School Administration preferred

  • Possess a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate

  • At least three years of successful teaching experience 

  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of curriculum, concepts and practices 

  • Strong knowledge of student management principles 

  • Knowledgeable with special education practices and processes 

  • Knowledgeable with technology integration 

  • Ability to collect, disaggregate, analyze and interpret student data 

  • School administrative or other similar experience preferred

Position Description: The responsibility of the K-12 Assistant Principal is to assist in the organization and administration of the district in an order that maximizes effectiveness for the social, emotional and academic growth, success and development of ALL students and staff. Essential Function and/or Responsibilities: 

  • Work cooperatively with administration, professional teaching staff, support staff, school board, parents and members of the community 

  • Serves as an effective instructional leader who communicates the philosophy, goals, and objectives of an elementary school program, aligned with the Michigan Merit Curriculum, to all stakeholders with a high level of integrity and fidelity 

  • Shared responsibility for driving best instructional practices and evaluating all staff in compliance with the law, using the 5D+ evaluation tool 

  • Develop and maintain a positive and productive school culture 

  • Provide curriculum leadership for K12 level team(s) 

  • Monitor the implementation, supervision and evaluation of the instructional programs 

  • Function as a contributing member to the administrative team in visioning, long and short-range planning, coordination, decision-making, and professional growth activities 

  • Assist in the leading of school improvement efforts in the district 

  • Assist in planning, implementing and analyzing data relating to school performance on local, state and national assessments 

  • Assist in the management of special education programming and processes 

  • Assist in recruiting, interviewing, recommending, assigning, training, coaching staff members for effective instructional programs 

  • Shares the responsibility for K12 student management including discipline and attendance; works directly with teachers in monitoring student behavior to maintain a healthy building climate 

  • Provide frequent parent and staff communications including building events, calendar and website postings 

  • Assist in monitoring the safety and maintenance of the district 

  • Roles and responsibilities may be assigned based on candidate’s years and level of experience at specific grade levels (elementary/secondary) 

  • Perform other duties as assigned by Principal/Superintendent

Reports to: Principal/Superintendent

Terms of Employment: Full time 220 day contracted position. Salary - Commensurate with experience and to schools of similar size and contracted days in Oceana County.
