Dear Students and Parents/Guardians,
As we continue on this journey of remote learning, there is always an area that needs to be addressed with new consideration. This letter will cover grades for all students enrolled in a junior high or high school class second semester for the 2019/2020 school year.
All students in jh/hs will be issued a score of Credit (CR) or No Credit (NC) at the end of the school year for the semester. Any work given after March 13, 2020 cannot and will not affect a student’s credit. Students who were not passing prior to March 13, 2020 may receive a NC for the class based on the work completed to that point. This will not affect junior high students’ ability to be promoted. This will affect high school classes that are listed on transcripts where credit is earned toward graduation, including Spanish I and PE/Health, which are taken in 8th grade.
Teachers will contact parents and students to provide an opportunity for students to complete any work assigned prior to March 13, 2020 so that they may earn credit in their class. Parents and students should check Power School, as all gradebooks have been updated, reflecting their grade through March 13, 2020.
Students in online classes that were part of a student’s second semester schedule must have a passing grade and must have 48% completed to receive credit in the class. The 48% has been established to align with the March 13, 2020 timeline. Students in online classes that were started prior to second semester (date), must be 100% complete with a passing grade.
Grades will not be issued for second semester on transcripts, and cumulative grade point averages will not be affected. Grades posted up until March 13, 2020 will be stored but not used to calculate grade point averages, honor roll, local awards or posted on transcripts. This allows us to retrieve a historic grade if called upon to do so. All historic grades stored will be noted as partial semester grades, not indicative of a full semester of work.
Any work given after March 13, 2020 will be noted in the grade book as work given with a zero out of zero point value. Teachers will note when work was returned; however students will not be penalized for work not turned in. Grades will not be given for any work provided after March 13, 2020.
We all know and realize that these are difficult times for students and families. Our goal is to continue to provide opportunities for students to strengthen their skills, explore new ideas, and be creative. We want to stay in contact with students and families and support your needs. Teachers will be in contact with students and parents weekly.
